Pushing the Envelope

HBO is premiering a new show on Sunday night called, “Tell Me You Love Me.”
I was able to see it on demand this weekend and I am very impressed. I have to hand it to HBO; they are always going above and beyond. I will be graduating in December with a degree in Sociology, I almost pursued a double major with psychology, so needless to say, and I am fascinated by relationships and the dynamics of intimacy. This show is not a TV show. It is an all –access pass to what is lurking behind closed doors. The images and emotions are so raw, it is uncomfortable to witness at some points. I don’t believe the sex is gratuitous, because sex is a normal part of relationships, but it is striking how realistic the scenes can be. I am floored by how compact it all is. The writing is simple and to the point, more is said in the space between the dialogue, in the actor’s eyes and their body language. I also really enjoy seeing an interesting age range in the couples, I don’t think there has ever been a show on the air that has shown us an older couple with real intimacy. It is brilliant, and I am sincerely looking forward to the rest of the season.
